Friday Finds {10-17-08}

The idea is to share, every Friday, about books that you’ve recently discovered (never heard of before) that sound really good!

Every Friday, those who have blogs will write a post at their own blog, and then come back and leave others a link to follow on that week’s “Friday Finds” post here at Should Be Reading. For those who don’t blog, you can just tell us about your “Friday Finds” in a comment on that week’s post.

There! That took awhile, but I consider it worth the effort. That being said: I'm off to make some lunch so that my 2 year old can nap and I can have a quiet cup of tea.

Booking Through Thursday {10-16-08}

Okay–here was an interesting article by Christopher Schoppa in the Washington Post.

Avid readers know all too well how easy it is to acquire books — it’s the letting go that’s the difficult part. … During the past 20 years, in which books have played a significant role in both my personal and professional lives, I’ve certainly had my fair share of them (and some might say several others’ shares) in my library. Many were read and saved for posterity, others eventually, but still reluctantly, sent back out into the world.

But there is also a category of titles that I’ve clung to for years, as they survived numerous purges, frequent library donations and countless changes of residence. I’ve yet to read them, but am absolutely certain I will. And should. When, I’m not sure, as I’m constantly distracted by the recent, just published and soon to be published works.

So, the question is his: “What tomes are waiting patiently on your shelves?“

I have several books that lived on my shelves for quite awhile. In no particular order here are some:

• Twilight Eyes- Dean Koontz
• Wish You Well- David Baldacci
• Bag of Bones- Stephen King
• This Loving Land- Dorothy Garlock
• 1st to Die- James Patterson

I don't really know why these (and there 100 or so companions) are still sitting, waiting to be read. If I had to pinpoint just one reason I think it would have to be this: I get excited by the new books that I get (either through PaperBackSwap orders, borrowing them from my sil Jenn or my mom, etc) that the ones that have already been living on my shelves, just don't have the same appeal. I will read them - someday. =)

Teaser Tuesdays asks you to:

• Let the book fall open to a random page

The easiest way to reach me is to send me an e-mail. If you are sending me info on a specific book, please put "Book for consideration" in the subject line {this makes it easier for me when I am skimming my Spam folder for misdirected e-mails}. Also please include in the body of the e-mail:

• if you wish to send me a finished hardcopy, an ARC/ARE, or a PDF
• how you wish to ship the book; if a hardcopy or ARC/ARE (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc)

I will consider certain non-fiction books (ie biographies, parenting or women's reference). I read/review adult, young adult and children's books (I have two children; 18 and 6). The genres I enjoy most are (in alphabetical order):

• chick-lit
• fantasy
• historical fiction
• mystery
• realistic fiction
• romance
• science fiction
• erotica

Genre's that I am not accepting/considering at this time are:

• poetry
• short story
• memoir

I try to read the review copies that I receive in a timely manner but due to time constraints (my family and other reading interests) it may take a while. If the book is an ARC/ARE, I will try to post my review of the book in the 3 weeks before or after its release date. If the book is already published then it may take me anywhere from 2-6 months to read and review it. The exception to this is blog tours; I will post the review on a specified (by sender) date.

I have a Kindle Touch now, so ebooks/PDFs are something I am considering again!

I will consider books from any publisher; including self-published.

I always post my reviews on my blog. If requested I will post them anywhere that does not require a paid membership. Including, but not limited to: GoodReads, Shelfari, Amazon, B&N. Info on my rating system can be found here. Please remember that I will post my honest opinion whether it is positive or not. I do my best to be fair.
