Musing Mondays {11-17-08}

mizb hosts this event every week.
WHAT ARE YOU READING RIGHT NOW?

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING, and WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT?

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU WILL READ NEXT?

WILL YOU READ ANY HOLIDAY-THEMED BOOKS SOON?

  • Right now I am reading The Safety of Secrets and desperately hoping that it gets better. I am almost 1/2 through it. -- I am also reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to my 2 1/2 year old. On Friday night I read the first chapter to her before she went to sleep. I have been reading it to her a chapter at a time before naps and bedtime.
  • I recently finished The Bell Jar. I wish I hadn't put off reading it for so long. - my review
  • I'm pretty sure that I'll be reading A Wrinkle in Time next.
  • I joined a challenge to read holiday books, but I just haven't gotten into holiday mode enough to read any. Maybe reading one will get me there? Any suggestions?

  1. You've been reading aloud to your 2 year old? Does she understand what your reading? I mean can she follow the story like that?

    Sorry no suggestions for holiday books, I haven't read that many.

  3. @Callista - I don't think she's really following the story. She looks at the pictures (there are some great ones in this particular edition) and eventually drops off. I just like the bonding factor right now. I started reading to her older sister (now 14) when she was 2 also.

  5. Hi Kylee, I loved A Wrinkle in Time! I'm sure you'll enjoy it too. I've been meaning to read The Bell Jar, but I keep putting it off too. Maybe I should read it soon.

  6. I read The Wizard of Oz to my kids a few years ago. My youngest listening child was two, and oldest was seven. I think they really understand more than you would think. And in any case you are spending some great time together, and building vocabulary.

    I really enjoyed the Wrinkle in Time Series.

    It depends on what kind of Holiday book you are looking for. For cheezy, sappy, heartwarming, christmas romance, I enjoy Deborah MacComber's books. I haven't read any of her non christams books, so I don't know if they are all that way. An excelent book I read last year was The Christmas tree by Julie Salamon. Sweet story.

  7. I liked wrinkle in time. I had to read it for a children's lit class for college. Sounds like fun reading the wizard of oz to your little girl.

  9. The wizard of Oz is on my to-read list. :-) I've always wanted to read it - i'm catching up on my childhood TBR list along with my current TBR...it's getting to be a long list.

    I've also recently finished The Bell Jar. I'm so utterly fascinated by Plath's prose and wish desperately that she wrote another (not that her poems are horrible or anything). But I don't think I can read it again for awhile - it's just too depressing.
