What is your policy when it comes to new authors? Do you feel comfortable purchasing a book or do you prefer to borrow new authors from the library? How often do you 'try out' a new author?
In general I don't buy books my new (and new to me) authors. I will however, borrow and on rare occasions buy, a book by a new (or new to me) author. If the author or a specific book is highly recommended to me by someone with very similar tastes I may take the chance and buy it.

I'm much more "reckless" with books that you are -- I'll try almost anything with almost no information!
ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand not taking the chance to spend the money. But I can be fairly reckless too!

ReplyDeleteI must admit, I'm one of the reckless ones. LOL
ReplyDeleteI will usually try to find a new authors book or hope it's one in the Amazon.com's buy three get one free deal and buy it then when I'm getting free shipping. I can usually resell it on Half.com and I'm not out too much money.
ReplyDeleteI love trying new authors and so, as others have mentioned, can be rather "reckless" that way. Still, I understand the hesitation. I do like to know something about the author and book I am about to try, especially if I'm going to be buying it. Recommendations come in handy for that. I've been known to copy down names and titles, run home to research them, and then, if they passed the test, go back and get them at a later time.
